Now that the improvements had been brought to light we organized a second shoot at 8 in the morning, the camera had been booked out the night before and everyone was up for getting it sorted there and then. We set the camera up in the back of the car and everyone got to their positions, one problem... After shooting a scene we gathered round to look at the footage and found that the camera didn't record! We tried it again. Nothing! Ok, so we thought it might be because it was cold and decided to leave the camera by a radiator while we went to our lecture, then try again at 12.
When we came back we found that it still wasn't recording even though the record light was flashing! Nightmare! We hadn't anymore time to get this done with the deadline looming and other work to be done, we had to call it a day and stick with the original edit. Shame...

One Shot Film: New Script
Script
Cast:
George - Edward Christie
Barry - Ross Platt
Mugger - Dan Norbury
Old Woman - Damo James
Cameraman - Micah
Editor - Dan Norbury
George gets into the car with a box of cakes and coffee.
George - "Bloody old people!"
George hands a cake to Barry
George - "here you go."
Barry - "cheers."
George - "They can be so rude sometimes."
Barry - "Oh yeh."
George - Just tried to be kind and got told to get out of the way!"
Barry - "Mmm yeah?"
George - "I mean I've always been respectful, but that old dear has really pushed my buttons. She should just hurry up and die."
Barry - "Whhooww! You can say things like that!"
George - "I know but, it's just i'm tring to protect people like her, but I would protect her!" (laugh)
Barry - "Shut up! Yeah you would George. If she was getting mugged now you'd do somthing."
George - "I wouldn't, they piss me off."
Barry - "Stop being an idiot Geaorge."
George puts cake on the back seat.
Barry - "Wooh wooh wooh what are you doing."
barry lifts up the cake.
George - "Whooh whooh whooh, thats my cake man."
Barry - "Thats why I didn't want it on my bleedin car."
George - "I was just."
Barry - Ah, look what you've done, you've got it everywhere.
George - "Sorry sorry."
Barry - "You can explained to sarg later if this comes up."
George - "Ah, it's not that bad."
Barry turns and looks at the seat.
Barry - "Well it isn't is it."
While George is looking at the back seat Barry sees an old woman walking away from the car.
Barry - "Is that the old dear you were just on about?"
George - "What?"
Barry - "Ah nothing."
George - "Look! I've cleaned it."
Silence as Barry turns around.
Barry - "No you haven't!"
End.

One Shot Film Review: First Edit
After looking back at the footage we commented on lots of errors within the dialog, camera position and positioning of the characters.
The main areas of concern:
The camera position could be improved, as their were areas that had no significance and because they the in the frame the action was significant. Areas of main concern were the headrests and excessive dark areas.
The conclusion; Remove headrest and zoom in slightly or maybe convert to widescreen?
The old woman was too far to the left hand side of the shot and cuts away some of the action.
The conclusion; Designate an area on the road for the action to enable the camera to capture all events, maybe removing the mirror, although this removes some realism?
The old woman seems to appear from nowhere and is less prominent in the story.
Conclusion; Have the old woman walking towards the car from from a distance at the beginning of the shot as if she has no importance, then becomes the center of attention when the mugger comes attacks.
The brief was to create a one shot film that is no longer then two minutes. As I've added credits at the beginning, I've gone o the two minute marker.
Conclusion; Cut down the credits at the beginning and shorten the dialog as this drags on for two long.
The dialog at the moment doesn't flow very well as it was very improvised and wasn't that funny. There were too many unnecessary swear words that had no relevance to the plot that were mainly there to cover up pauses.
Conclusion; Using the footage recorded, put together a script that cuts down the length of the conversation and has more comedy. Maybe introduce some conversation about old people?
The main focus in-front of the car, before the old woman arrives, is the parked car, as if it was important to the screenplay.
Conclusion; When filming make sure that the area in-front is clear or has relevance to the story.
The windscreen is dirty.
Conclusion; Clean it.
Within the main dialog between the two main characters, one is more prominent than the other, as the character on the right moves into the view of the camera more often.
Conclusion; They both need to move into the camera's view equally as much so that the audience can pick up on the personalities. Maybe introduce some coffee with the cakes to encourage more hand movements?

One Shot Film Edit
This version was conducted without a script and just the basic story line. The idea of this was so we could get a fluid and realistic conversation between the two characters, whilst also being able to look back to critically analyze the footage for improvements.

One Shot Film Plan
Plot
Two incompetent, undercover police detectives (George & Barry) are on a stakeout and begin making banter with each other to pass the time. Whilst they talk they don't notice an old women in front of the car being mugged but the old woman knows kung fu! The mugger runs across, attacking the woman and grabbing her handbag. The woman fights back and beating the mugger up while the police are oblivious until the last moment.
Setting
We decided on an urban setting where the two police detectives are parked up down an ally way. Problems we encounter were other people using the streets and other cars parking in the way.
Props
We're using a variety of props for the film:
Car,
Balaclava for mugger,
Old woman clothing,
Old woman wig,
Handbag,
Police aviators,
Police badge,
Cakes.

Three Point Lighting
Three point lighting is the standard way to arrange the lighting in the majority of filming situation. It consists of three lighting points to fill the filming area, and are named the key light, back light and fill light.
Key Light:
This is the main source of light which is usually situated next the the camera covering the filming area.
Fill Light:
This is the second light source which is less intense then the key light and is situated on the other side of the camera. This fills in any excess shadow created by the key light.
Back Light:
This is the light source that fills the rear of the filming area and can also be aimed towards the back of the subject to create a slight halo effect.
Standard spot lights give off an orange colour which may not be wanted, for example, when working outside as natural sunlight has a blue pigment. Where natural light is needed a blue filter would need to be put over the spotlight.
When using lighting equipment some safety procedures need to be followed. Heat resistant gloves need to be worn when handling spotlights as they get extremely hot and can easily burn people. The wiring for the equipment is also a hazard as there are usually a number of lights on a set at time and tripping over a wire can occur. To avoid this wires are usually taped to the floor. Wires also need to be uncoiled otherwise the electricity flowing through them will heat the and may cause a fire.

One Shot Film Ideas
Coming up with initial ideas for the film was an interesting process as lots different ideas were put to the table which ranged from camera angles to types of computer aided effects to plots and casting. We all initially decided on making comical film as we want people to enjoy watching the piece of work and talk about it afterwards.
Some ideas that came up included:
70's theme bank job,
CCTV footage of a shop robbery,
Kung Fu fight scene/contest,
Honda advert theme,
Kung Fu old woman fighting off muggers,
Driving around the city,
Real life traffic police.
We decided on mixing the ideas in one film, which was based on real life police on a steak out while a kung fu fighting old woman fights off muggers in front of the car. We liked this idea because setting the camera up on the back seat pointing towards the windscreen would be an interesting position as it would cover both the old woman scene and police within the same shot.

One Shot Film Intro
In the seminar the class was split up in to small groups to create a short, one shot film around the concept of either irritation or meeting. Our group chose irritation and came up with the concept of someone waking up in the morning, banging his head on things and treading on things while also being in a rush. This was just a tester as we were then given a brief for a 2 minute one shot film to be completed by end of week 19.
